Paul Araki-Metcalfe Sensei is a Yondan (4th Dan black belt) in Aikido, fully licensed and his ranking is registered at the Aikido World headquarters Hombu in Tokyo, Japan. Paul has been studying this art since the 70's. Paul has studied, taught, and trained in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, America, and also whilst living in Japan for 9 years.
Aikido is a totally self-defensive martial art that, once mastered, can easily be utilised by anyone to defend themselves against an aggressive opponent. Your size does not matter, as properly executed techniques can control even the biggest aggressor.
Paul Araki-Metcalfe is also a Shihan (master teacher) of a 600-year-old traditional Japanese sword style which he studied whilst living in Japan for 9 years. Paul was given the traditional sword teaching certificate (Kaiden Menkyo) from his sword teachers, and the official title of Shihan, before he left Japan for Australia. Paul is the only person to date who teaches this particular sword style outside of Japan.
