The club has a membership of 130 from the 5 year old beginner to the parent who wants to better understand their child’s sport, to the Olympic athlete. Budokan has 2 members who have qualified for the 2016 Olympic Team and over the past 20 years the club has had significant representation in every age category to National Championships and international competitions including the 2004 Olympic Games, numerous World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
Budokan is NSW Club of the Year, an award it has achieved 3 times in 5 years. We have also won NSW Junior Development club on two occasions and are also Judo Australia’s “2015 Best Contributing Club”. As a competition-focused club, we have achieved the highest medal tally at the Nationals for the past 3 years. However, we also have a unique quality of a high family social culture and have many multiple-family members who regularly travel interstate together to various events. Our creed is: “Encouragement and Acknowledgement build Participation; Participation Builds Depth and Progress, Depth and Progress Build Results” and this certainly works for us.
