Shihan Gibbons has been training in Kyokushin Karate since 1986.
Some highlights of his time in Kyokushin are:
1993, Graded to 1st dan black belt
1994, Opened ACT's fist full-time Kyokushin Training Facility
1995, Graded to 2nd dan black belt
1998, Won the South Pacific Full Contact Championship in the Middleweight division. Shihan won all his fights by knockout!
1999, Graded to 3rd dan black belt.
1999, Won the NSW Kyokushin Kata Championship in the Men's Black Belt division
1999, Won the NSW Non-Contact Championship in the Men's Black Belt division
2000, Fought in the World Open Full Contact Tournament in Japan
2001, Competed in the NZ National Kyokushin Championship. Results: First in Men's Black Belt Weapons Division, First in Men's Black Belt Kata division, First in Team Kata division, Second in Non-Contact Sparring and 2nd in Full-Contact in the Lightweight division.
2001, Won the Australian Ring Karate Championships in the Super Welterweight division
2002, Graded to 4th dan black belt
2002, Won the Australian Ring Karate Championships in the Lightweight division
2002, Fought in the World Cup in America. Placed 5th in the Lightweight division
2004, Judged at the World Open Full Contact Tournament in Japan.
2006, Judged at the World Cup in Australia.
2006, Graded to 5th dan black belt
2008, Judged at the World Open Full Contact Tournament in Japan.
Apart from these achievements, Shihan has also produced many Australia, State and Local Karate Champions.
Since coming to the ACT, Shihan has elevated ACT Kyokushin Karate to a whole new level. He is personally responsible for getting every active ACT Kyokushin karate instructor as well as some AKKA instructors their Black Belts.
