Not a good gym to train at

This gym claims to be teaching Krav Maga but only teaches it for half an hour once a week out of the three training sessions he provides. The black belt he offers you after you have completed your 100 sessions he gives you a black belt, but not in Krav Maga but in his made up freestyle martial art which he doesn’t tell you that when you start training there, and if you ask him about it he will tell you that you need to attend at least 300 sessions until he gives you what you actually payed for, not to mention that some of his methods are outdated and that he refuses to update his system because it’s his way or nothing else. To get graded for each belt you have to just kick or punch a pad and get a specific number of power behind your kick/punch which is not how grading works, it’s based off skill of the actual martial art. He is overly prized and his personal PT sessions cost $100 an hour, only top professionals like ex champions in national or world tournaments charge this much, which he isn’t one. If you then decide to leave the “academy” and go train at another Krav Maga facility he will demean you and post negative stuff about you online via Facebook posts online for everyone to see after he’s blocked you on everything that way you cannot defend yourself, so in other words once you go to his gym you have to stay there forever. He also wastes time on a student of the month award for a plastic trophy just for turning up to every session in a month, that will be his main focus instead of teaching Krav Maga; he will criticise you for wanting to get a blackbelt certificate but is okay with you getting a plastic trophy just for participation. Another thing he does is constantly bombard you with messages pestering/asking if you will be coming to training that night, if you say no he will send upset emojis and go on about his motto “No Excuses”.

Easily one of the best Krav Maga / Mix Martial Arts school I’ve trained at.

Been training at Defensive Kombat back since it opened up in 2011, I’m originally from Ireland, needed a place to call my second home since I moved to WA.

Was the best decision I ever made. The club is so welcoming and friendly, but the training is

brilliant and thats what has made me stay up til now. Easily one of the best decision I’ve made.
