Excellence Karate Academy-Kin Shin Kai
Since 1989 Excellence Karate Academy has been operating in Ivanhoe. To date we have instructed 1000+ students including 100+ to Black belt level.
Ethical, effective & traditional, we teach the Kin Shin Kai martial arts system. This system is based squarely on the Goju Kensha karate of the late great martial artist and researcher, Tadahiko Ohtsuka.
The system also integrates principles and skills from many other martial arts particularly including Tai Chi, the Koryu Uchinadi of Patrick McCarthy and the Bruneian Silat of Maul mornie,
Most importantly for today's world we incorporate a comprehensive system of Self Defense integrated directly and systematically into our curriculum.
This specifically highlights the importance of behavioral Self Defense as well as the need for physical techniques being suitable for the very young, the not so big and strong, and the not so young.
Lastly we are a 'family' style group rather than a big commercial dojo. Our goal is to focus on each individual student, helping them realise their own, unique maximum potential

Programs & Class Schedule
We offer small class sizes and tuition by highly experienced Black Belt instructors.
This will deliver you a far more personal and higher quality learning experience
All regular classes are held at the Ivanhoe Uniting Church, 19 Seddon st Ivanhoe. We also run special interest classes at the headquarters dojo in Lower Templestowe.
We offer a variety of class levels for students 5 years and up.
Regular classes follow the state school terms – 4 terms per year.
We also run special interest holiday programme classes.
Fees are payable on a term fee basis and are very reasonable.
There is a once only joining/membership fee of $90. This includes a free uniform
Most importantly we are an inclusive group, we are there for all kinds of ages and skill and fitness levels so feel confident to give us a go. All we do expect is that you train with committment and behave in a way which enhances the harmony of the group.
