I started karate classes at EKA as an adult in 2005 with no previous martial arts knowledge and am currently working towards my 2nd dan black belt. From the first class, I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and focus on continuous improvement. The EKA instructors and senior students were all patient and experienced, which made learning easier.

There is a definite emphasis on safely practicing self defence techniques which could be used in real life situations. Kata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kata) is one of the teaching methods used and also cultivates discipline and focus. Athletic ability is sharpened by participating in non-contact sparring during classes and at intra-club tournaments.

In addition to my own positive experiences, I have observed a number of students who graduated from a junior class to the adult class. I don't believe it is a coincidence that they were all enthusiastic, respectful, composed (even when under pressure) as well as willing to learn and to help others learn. There was no evidence of teenage angst or sullenness which one might encounter in 16 to 18 year olds. EKA training reinforces the lessons in behaviour which any good parent should teach their child.

I would recommend karate as taught by EKA to any parent or to anyone interested in self-improvement, both mental and physical.

I have been learning Karate with this school for the past 3 1/2 years, and I have enjoyed every minute! The teachers are fantastic and I've made some wonderful new friends. If you want to improve your fitness or increase your confidence, you couldn't find a better place!
