The South Australian branches of the Karate Union of Australia was established in 1980 and has since produced quality human beings for the community and high level exponents of karate-do. We have produced several state, domestic and international champions.
The K.U.A. was initially under the banner of the Japanese Karate Association (J.K.A) in 1972, formed by Tom Halliday in S.A., Chris Sargent in N.S.W. and Mike Connelly in Queensland. In 1973 the J.K.A. sent the first official Shotokan instuctor to Australia, Sensei Takahashi. At the time we were involved with F.A.K.O.[Federation of Australian Karate Organisations].
The organization left the J.K.A. to form Australian Shotokan Association under Sensei Frank Nowak. Following the death of Nowak Sensei, the organization found leadership in Sumi Sensei leading to the formation of the Karate Union of Australia which is still going strong in 4 states. In recent times the K.U.A. has aligned themselves with the Universal Shotokan Karate Union under Sensei Kenichi Fukamizu.
Our primary goal is to produce people who uphold the values respect, work ethic, humility and self discipline. New students are accepted from all ages and abilities.
