We teach Japanese jiu-jitsu (incorporating classical judo), with a focus on self-defence, technical excellence, and character development. Classes are open to members of the community aged 16 and up, as well as Monash students and staff.
The technical material includes learning to fall safely (ukemi), throwing techniques, restraint and control, grappling on the ground, and self-defence applications.
We are affiliated with the Australian Jiu-jitsu, Judo and Chinese Boxing Federation of Instructors, through which gradings and additional instruction is available. The Caulfield instructor is Dan Prager (3rd dan), and the Principal instructor of the Monash Club is Tony Papenfuss (4th dan).
